Will the project comply with the City’s Waterfront Revitalization Program?

Under the federal Coastal Zone Management Act, the City developed a local Waterfront Revitalization Program (WRP) to protect its waterfront. The WRP was approved by the City Council, the State and the federal government. As part of the SEQRA and CEQR process, there must be an analysis that the South Pier Improvement Project will be consistent with the WRP. The WRP has designated this part of the Brooklyn waterfront a Significant Maritime Industrial Area which allows for the development of water-dependant industries, including power plants like the Gowanus plant. It is anticipated that the consistency review will demonstrate that this project is in compliance with the WRP.
